"To Become an Integrative Pediatric Sleep and Family Well-being Educator"
From Jessica Moura
Family Wellness International Institute Founder

Are you a health, maternity or parenting  professional?

And you're currently working with children who are waking up every hour around the clock, are refusing to go to bed, or are having irregular sleep patterns...

And you've tried everything to get them to sleep with no success...

Or

Are you a mother wishing to start a new career working from home and supporting families?

And you care about children's mental health, and breastfeeding and attachment principles. Therefore, suggesting sleep training is not your thing...

Then this will be the most important letter you'll read this year.
Here's Why...
What if I were to tell there is a way to help children sleep more and better without using separation technique...

A way where you can find an array of answers and solutions even for the child who wakes up countless times all night.

Plus, to be able to understand about pediatric sleep and children’s behavior as you’ve never before.

No, this is not a “magic formula”.

No, this doesn't require drugs.

No, this doesn't require expensive therapy.

I’m talking about a simple yet scientific-based approach to understand pediatric sleep problems from 0 to 12 years-old.

The same approach that I use in my practice with families and students across the world…

Without actually EVER suggesting sleep training to my clients.

Want to know more?

...
My name is Jessica Moura, MPsy, sleep health, attachment and trauma specialist and I’m an international recognized Integrative therapist, parent educator and advocate for children’s sleep with love, science and respect.

I’m the founder of Family Wellness International Institute, an American-based school.

You're probably familiar with the world-renowned dr. Daniel Siegel, aren't you? In 2019, he was a part of an online campaign about attachment to families and professionals in Brazil with me (“#ApegoNOW”).
And I've presented my approach to him and dr. Jane Nelsen from Positive Discipline.
If you're like me, you care about children's mental health and attachment as much as you care about sleep...

That's why I got my degree in Sleep at Penn State University, where in the department of psychology and pediatrics we can find the perfect blend of attachment and sleep research.

I also I had the opportunity to learn about Trauma with the world-renowned specialist in the field that you're probably familiar with, dr. Van der Kolk.

I’m currently studying Pre and Perinatal childhood trauma in UK.

But most importantly, since 2017 I've certified hundreds of professionals across the world, including the USA, China, Italy, Argentina and Brazil, who are now effectively helping thousands of children sleep more and better in their practice or as a Integrative Sleep Educator.
180 hours of Sleep, Integrative Health, Psychology and Attachment Education!
You may work as a doula, breastfeeding consultant, parenting coach, pediatrician, nutritionist...

And families bring up questions about sleep from day one that you cannot help!

Sleep is not a subject that most health degrees focus on.

For me, not being able to help families with their sleep questions seemed so overwhelming and questionable.

Or maybe you're already working with sleep as a sleep coach or consultant

The problem is that some professionals really understand about sleep but know little about attachment.

On the other hand, a lot of professionals are against sleep training (and they're right), know a lot about attachment but know very little about sleep.

Both scenarios are not good: It's no good when families believe they must sleep train their children in order for them to sleep better.

It's not good when they think attachment is the answer and therefore believe they are not good parents because they can't help their children feel safe.

There's much more about pediatric sleep...

There's nothing to do with "sleep props"! Trust me!

And, it turns out  kids do not have “negative sleep associations or props” at all...

But instead, they could have deep-seated physiological or psychological components that must be dealt with.

You see, approximately 25% of children and 30% of adolescents have some type of sleep problem...

And research shows that 73% of elementary and high school children do not have adequate sleep...

But families and children rarely receive some form of sleep education.

And when they do, sleep training is often involved.

The problem with this lack of education about pediatric sleep is that such factors may allow the real problems that are preventing the child from having quality sleep to go unnoticed.

With this large population of children suffering from sleep deprivation, there comes a lot of complexity given each unique situation.
“I’ve never felt so excited to study. Excellent material and everything is scientific-based. The certification presents a beautiful understanding of childhood, the importance of the first years of life and children’s emotional health. It’s beyond sleep. It is a certification for those that are seeking to understand babies, children and their families, their physical and emotional needs, and sleep will follow. The certification brings up lots of reflections and critical thinking, besides being taught with love, care, and empathy. I highly recommend it!!!”

An Attachment and Integrative Perspective On Pediatric Sleep Problems…
When I noticed I needed to be prepared to support families with their sleep questions and problems, I soon began reading about children's sleep.

I searched for training to become a sleep consultant or coach, but everything I could find seemed the same information we can find everywhere else online for free.

Everyone focuses on sleep associations at some point, methods or sleep windows!

I noticed pediatric sleep needed a new perspective urgently.

It was then when I sought a degree in Sleep and then I developed Pediatric Integrative Sleep Health™, after having all gaps filled!

I’m now able to approach a sleep problem and see the issue right away, after the proper assessment is taken, of course.

Can you imagine how good it feels now?

I get to impact the lives of so many children and families without even needing to suggest how their children should fall asleep. It is so fulfilling!

There is no more pressure or overwhelm.

And I feel so confident when supporting families' sleep while also protecting the breastfeeding relationship, co-sleep, or whatever it feels right to the family.

Because I really understand about sleep, my role is of a facilitator, not a judge or general dictating rules and regulations to families.

There is no weight on my shoulders because I trust the family can make the decisions when bedtime comes.

Because I understand about sleep health, I trust that mothers (and fathers) are the best specialists to their children during bedtime.

And I became a family friend, the person I know they'll be forever thankful…

Even after years I still receive emails and messages wishing me well.

And I want more children sleeping more and better without sleep training.

That's why I developed a certification program that is a success if you're a health professional or if you're starting a new career today to work alongside families to support their sleep journey and health promotion.

It's a comprehensive program with the most up to date information about pediatric sleep science and it's supported by world-renowned specialists in the field.

Since 2017, Family Wellness International Institute has become a reference for children's sleep without sleep training in Brazil.

The program integrates different areas of research and there is special participation of dr Dan Siegel (The author of The Whole Brain Child) exploring neuroscience and sleep, and dr Jane Nelsen (The author of Positive Discipline) integrating educational psychology and sleep.
This Program Has No Interest in Training Students to Train Children to Sleep!
In this program, we will explore Integrative Health, Neuroscience, Human behavior, Integrative Psychology, Anthropology, Anatomy, therapy principles and so much more.

I want you to develop a sense of critical thinking and apply this education to your current practice or begin working as an Integrative Sleep Educator.

The truth is there's a LOT to learn...

Especially when it comes to children’s health and sleep.

Things like:

  • How to successfully assess a client about sleep… so you can avoid overseeing a health problem or minor issue that might be the cause of the sleep problem in the first place.
  • How to apply sleep science knowledge to regulate the child’s sleep without EVER needing to suggest sleep training methods.
  • How to understand behavior, its triggers, and its real roots. Sometimes, bedtime behavior problem is not a sleep problem, it is just the tip of the iceberg.
  • How to approach a family and their emotional problems so that you allow them to feel respected and empowered to find their own answers.
  • How to empower a family to transform their relationship with sleep… WITHOUT overwhelming them with unnecessary rules and lots of information.
I used to struggle with all those challenges!

I had to study a lot, look into different fields and theories. Besides that, I spent over two years just reading pediatric sleep research.

I felt like a jigsaw puzzle with so many pieces that I had to put together.

If you currently feel like this and are struggling with overwhelm…

I can guarantee I have also felt the same way.

BUT…

What I discovered was all that it took was having ONE great model to approach pediatric sleep… to completely transform things.

A unique model that is scientific-based and can be used in any situation…

To help you feel confident and support families and children to sleep more and better without any sleep training involved!
“I would like to thank you very much for the opportunity of having taken this course! I confess that when I signed up I was full of “misconceptions” because I thought that sleep consulting was one thing: sleep training! I already followed the Institute’s Instagram and the posts showed me there was something different about it... And I was curious ... It was this curiosity that made me make the decision to see what it would really be a sleep consultant / educator. I'm a fulltime mom, I am still breastfeeding my almost 3-year-old daughter (because we're fine like this!) and I always sympathized with Attachment Parenting and Positive Discipline. During the course, I had the opportunity to review many of my misconceptions, look to my motherhood and especially to myself. A process of knowledge and healing! We had some intense months of study, scientific content, and many enriching discussions in group calls. Jessica's knowledge and clarity about everything she teachers is awesome!! We are lucky to have her as a mentor! I am thankful for the changes in me personally and professionally! Today, l am able to hear from my clients that I really have a talent as a Sleep Educator. It just makes me rest assure that I made the right choice to have left my curiosity to speak louder than my “misconception"!"

Here are just a few testimonials:
“I’m very thankful I had the opportunity and pleasure to do this certification. It is a comprehensive course and has taught me so much, not just as an Integrative Sleep Educator, but also as a human being, especially like a MOTHER! It was not easy, we had to study, read, apply the knowledge into activities, and I had a baby at home… BUT I planned my schedule and could really dive into this certification. I thought I could not be as good as other classmates who already worked as sleep consultants, or even as other health professionals that had much more experience than me… but I was wrong because today I can say confidently I feel so ready to start consultations and support families with sleep, and also, I’ve had lots of positive results with my clients. I would like to thank you a lot for this new career. Thank you, Jessica!”
Fernanda Benatti – Health Coach – California / USA
“The certification is really surprising! It is comprehensive and unique, it respects not only the child but the whole family. Learning about neuroscience, psychology, integrative health… it goes beyond studying sleep itself. Jessica is always there for us, mentoring and motivating us. It is impossible not to love it!”

Ana Castro – Sleep Consultant – Atlanta / USA
This Is What You Will Unwrap Inside Each Module:
Module 1- The History and Science of Childhood and Family sleep – That’s the foundation learning for everything the course will cover. You will learn everything about why we sleep, the history of sleep training and how the absence of a village affects families today and how to support them. You will get deep into sleep science, learn how children’s sleep differs from adults so that you can identify what get in the way of their natural ability to sleep.

At the end of the module, you will be able to have real expectations about optimal sleep for children and support parents and children with resources about Sleep Health to apply in any case scenario with children from 0 to 12 years-old.
Module 2- Childhood Integrative Health Model and Neurological Aspects of sleep – You will learn the foundational skills Integrative Childhood Health (developed by your mentor) and be able to understand children’s behavior from different points of view, as sleep problems are just a glimpse of what really is happening. You will then dive into understanding what triggers some of these behaviors and how to treat the root causes for effective results. You will also learn everything about the neurological aspects of sleep, like sleep during gestation for mother and baby, premature babies, disorders and so on.

At the end of the module, you will be able to identify what to expect from the case you will be working on and how to manage it.
Module 3- Physical & Physiological Aspects of Sleep – Most of the time, the child is not refusing to sleep, her body is just not able to fall and stay asleep. You'll learn content from interdisciplinary fields that can affect directly the quality and quantity of sleep such as breastfeeding, illness, nutrition, etc.

At the end of the module, you'll be able to identify all red flags of a case and know how to act on the situation through Education and/or referring the family for the professional that is able to treat the problem when necessary.
Module 4- Emotional Aspects of Sleep and How to Support the Whole Family – Emotion is usually a forgotten aspect when dealing with children’s sleep problems, but having knowledge about the different fields of psychology to understand what is going on is crucial. You will learn comprehensive content including the science of attachment and its relation to sleep, attachment and trauma, early trauma and so on. You will be able to apply everything you learn in your own home; you'll find lots of answers from your own childhood and feel transformed in a way that you truly understand children through their point of view.

At the end of the module, you'll be able to create a safe space to do in-depth work with families and support the need of parents and children effectively with accurate empathy.
Module 5- Behavioral Aspects of Sleep Why Sleep Training is Not an Option – We don’t believe in negative or positive associations. The way a child falls sleep is not the secret of the integrative approach and it is a decision of the family. The family doesn’t need pressure! You'll learn that children’s behaviors need to be understood not changed and we need to concentrate more on how the responsible ones for the child act upon the situation they find to be a problem and how they can find their own answers.

At the end of this module, you will be able to understand why sleep training is not an option, the risks, who supports it and who doesn’t and what research has to say about it. You will then be able to help the family apply everything from the different aspects of sleep into their lives and create a pleasant routine, rituals, and traditions for the whole family.
Module 6- The Role of the Integrative Sleep Educator – Integrative Sleep Educator is not a sleep trainer, not even a coach. You’ll be a FACILITATOR. You’ll learn how essential your role is in the family system and how to act in different situations. In this module, you’ll be able to see real case studies from your mentor, what and how she did in each step so that you can be confident to begin your practice work. You’ll then do a task that combines the previous modules into practical questions and scenarios to test your critical thinking. You will not learn magic tools in this course. You will become a true sleep specialist! Each family is unique, and critical thinking is the secret to work with families and children’s Sleep Health.

At the end of this module, you will have the tools and assessments you need to successfully support families.

LEVEL 2 – PRACTICAL WORK

You'll have to submit 3 case-studies in written form to acquire experience doing your consultations. You will also be required to set up an educational workshop either online or live for your chosen group of people or parents that you want to support, that way you can gain experience as an educator. You will need to submit how your experience was to you in a written form.

Supervision is done monthly through group mentoring calls and you continue to have along support through the private Facebook where students can share their experiences and support one another. You'll then be certified as an ‘Integrative Pediatric Sleep and Well-being Educator’.
