LEVEL 1 – THEORETICAL AND FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS
Module 1- The History and Science of Childhood and Family sleep – That’s the foundation learning for everything the course will cover. You will learn everything about why we sleep, the history of sleep training and how the absence of a village affects families today and how to support them. You will get deep into sleep science, learn how children’s sleep differs from adults so that you can identify what get in the way of their natural ability to sleep. At the end of the module, you will be able to have real expectations about optimal sleep for children and support parents and children with resources about Sleep Health to apply in any case scenario with children from 0 to 12 years-old.
Module 2- Childhood Integrative Health Model and Neurological Aspects of sleep – You will learn the foundational skills Integrative Childhood Health (developed by your mentor) and be able to understand children’s behavior from different points of view, as sleep problems is just a glimpse of what really is happening. You will then dive into understanding what triggers some of these behaviors and how to treat the root causes for effective results. You will also learn everything about the neurological aspects of sleep, like sleep during gestation for mother and baby, premature babies, disorders and so on. At the end of the module, you will be able to identifY what to expect from the case you will be working on and how to manage it.
Module 3- Physiological Aspects of Sleep – Most of the time, the child is not refusing to sleep, her body is just not able to fall and stay asleep. You'll learn content from interdisciplinary fields that can affect directly the quality and quantity of sleep such as illness, nutrition, etc. At the end of the module, you'll be able to identify all red flags of a case and know how to act on the situation through Education and/or referring the family for the professional that is able to treat the problem when necessary.
Module 4- Emotional Aspects of Sleep and How to Support the Whole Family – Emotion is usually a forgotten aspect when dealing with children’s sleep problemS, but having knowledge about the different fields of psychology to understand what is going on is crucial. You will learn comprehensive content including the science of attachment and its relation to sleep, attachment and trauma, early trauma and so on. You will be able to apply everything you learn in your own home; you'll find lots of answers from your own childhood and feel transformed in a way that you truly understand children through their point of view. At the end of the module, you'll be able to create a safe space to do in-depth work with families and support the need of parents and children effectively with accurate empathy.
Module 5- Behavioral Aspects of Sleep Why Sleep Training is Not an Option – We don’t believe in negative or positive associations. The way a child fallS sleep is not the secret of the integrative approach and it is a decision of the family. The family doesn’t need pressure! You'll learn that children’s behaviors need to be understood not changed and we need to concentrate more on how the responsible ones for the child act upon the situation they find to be a problem and how they can find their own answers. At the end of this module, you will be able to understand why sleep training is not an option, the risks, who supports it and who doesn’t and what research has to say about it. You will then be able to help the family apply everything from the different aspects of sleep into their lives and create a pleasant routine, rituals, and traditions for the whole family.
Module 6- The Role of the Integrative Sleep Educator – Integrative Sleep Educator is not a sleep trainer, not even a coach. You’ll be a FACILITATOR. You’ll learn how essential your role is in the family system and how to act in different situations. In this module, you’ll be able to see real case studies from your mentor, what and how she did in each step so that you can be confident to begin your practice work. You’ll then do a task that combines the previous modules into practical questions and scenarios to test your critical thinking. You will not learn magic tools in this course. You will become a true sleep specialist! Each family is unique, and critical thinking is the secret to work with families and children’s Sleep Health. At the end of this module, you will have the tools and assessments you need to successfully support families.
LEVEL 2 – PRACTICAL WORK
You'll have to submit 3 case-studies in written form to acquire experience doing your consultations. You will also be required to set up an educational workshop either online or live for your chosen group of people or parents that you want to support, that way you can gain experience as an educator. You will need to submit how your experience was to you in a written form. Supervision is done monthly through group mentoring calls and you continue to have along support through the private Facebook where students can share their experiences and support one another. You'll then be certified as an ‘Integrative Pediatric Sleep and Well-being Educator’.
